The effects of anoxia upon animal cells and tissues

چکیده
Anoxia is a general term denotingoxygen lack regardlessof how orwhere in the body it is produced. There are fourgeneral types of anoxia: anoxic anoxia (anoxemia) , anemicanoxia, stagnant anoxia and histological anoxia. In normal oxygenation oftissues, oxygen is given up to thetissuesbecause of a difference in oxygen tension in the capil-laries and the tissue fluid, the greater tension being in thecapillary. Oxygen canbe carried into thecells only by theenzyme, oxidase. With the aid ofvarious enzymes, oxygen isbrought to the metabolite in the cell which is oxidized. In-jury toany of the respiratory enzymes of thecell causes anoxiadue to the inability of the cell to take upavailable oxygen.Nervous tissue is extremely sensitive tothe effects ofoxygen lack. However, a constant supply of oxygen rather thana rich one is necessary for its functioning. Anoxia decreasessomatic excitability and increases autonomic excitability, sug-gesting that somatic centers are more sensitive to oxygen lackthan the autonomic centers. The nerve endings in the bowel are,in general, resistant to anoxia. The eye, on the other hand isextremely sensitive and is believed to be a good indicator ofthe early effects oflack of oxygenupon the central nervoussystem ofmammals. Anoxia causes an increase in respiration, rise in blood pressure and cardioinhibi tion due to stimulationof the chemoreceptors of the carotid and aortic bodies. The

Effects of Long-Term Administration of Rosemarinus officinalis Essential Oil on Blood Factors and Liver and Kidney Cells in Adult Rats
Background: Rosmarinus officinalis is a useful medicinal plant with numerous ethnopharmacological applications and widespread use in the industry. The main constituent of this plant is essential oil. There is a misconception that there is no restriction to using medicinal plants. The present study examined the effects of the chronic administration of Rosemarinus officinalis essential oil on the...
متن کاملImmunohistochemical Localization of Ghrelin in Testicular Tissues of Holstein Bulls
Ghrelin, a 28-amino acid acylated peptide, was identified as the endogenous ligand for the growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor and its role in reproduction has recently been established. It is believed that the site of ghrelin expression in testes may indicate its role in local regulation. This study investigated the immunohistochemical (IHC) localization of ghrelin in Holstein bull testi...
متن کاملDesign and Fabrication of Helmholtz Coils to Study the Effects of Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields on the Healing Process in Periodontitis: Preliminary Animal Results
Background: Effects of electromagnetic fields on healing have been investigated for centuries. Substantial data indicates that exposure to electromagnetic field can lead to enhanced healing in both soft and hard tissues. Helmholtz coil is a device that generates pulsed electromagnetic fields. Objective: In this study, a pair of Helmholtz coils for enhancing thehealing process in periodontitis w...
متن کاملTherapeutic Potential of Cord Blood Stem Cell in Brain Damage of an Animal Model
Purpose: At the present time the role of stem cells and its therapeutic effects is well known. Human or animal (bone marrow or cord blood) stem cells in stem cell therapy are a promising attempt to improve the recovery after post embryonic injuries. Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out on young Wistar rats. At first, cord blood stem cells (CBSCs) were isolated, and labeled w...
متن کاملEffects of Different Pressures of CO2 on P33 Tumor Inhibitor Gene in Liver and Spleen Tissues During CO2 Pneumoperitoneum in Adult Rats
Introduction: We aimed to study the effects of different CO2 pressures on expression of P33 gene and apoptosis in liver and spleen cells during CO2 pneumoperitoneum. Methods: This study was performed on 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing between 280 and 340 g (procured from Tehran Pasteur Institute’s animal house). They were randomly divided into 3 equal groups. Groups 1 a...
